    DIY Designer Shoes

Looking to imitate the signature red soles of a pair of Christian Louboutins, budget-conscious women in the U.K. have taken matters into their own hands, reports The Telegraph. And it's not just a handful of DIY renegades creating the fashionable fakes. Apparently, sales of glossy red paint at one British home store have jumped 40 percent from last year. It certainly gives new meaning to the expression painting the town red.

    The Big Squeeze

New York City apartments are notoriously small and cramped—and things are about to get even smaller. Mayor Michael Bloomberg has announced a pilot program to develop a downsized housing model for the city's growing population.

The adAPT NYC competition asks developers to submit design proposals for "micro-units" that are between 275 and 300 square feet. The winner will see their design implemented in an entire building in Manhattan.

While the spaces may be small, the prices aren’t. They’ll likely rent for less than the market rate, which is a whopping $2,000 per month. That's one pricey shoebox!
