How Sweet It Is
This giant Persian carpet is actually made from two tons of refined white sugar. Montreal artist Aude Moreau used food coloring and charcoal to meticulously create the floral-edged motif, a project that took over 180 hours. The "carpet" will be on display through Feb. 24 at Smack Mellon, an art gallery in Brooklyn that had been flooded by Hurricane Sandy. While the artist was aiming to highlight the "undervalued process of production," the rug—which is vulnerable to a rogue draft or unexpected achoo—seems to also be a reminder of how fleeting and fragile life can be.Courtesy of Smack Mellon
