Farewell to Frizz1 of 16
By Paige Brettingen
We love summer. Really, we do. But when our hair starts looking like we've brushed up against an electrical socket, fall can't get here soon enough. To help you enjoy the final weeks of summer—without worrying about your hair—Glo's testers tried out a variety of anti-frizz products. Find out which ones were up the task.
Shine On2 of 16
The promise: For those wanting results that last longer than a day, this serum guarantees frizz control for 72 hours.
Tester's take: "It had a light flowery smell that was subtle and left a slight shine that lasted throughout the day."
SHOP NOW: L'Oreal Frizz Taming Serum, $5
Star Power3 of 16
The promise: Co-owned by Jennifer Aniston, the Living Proof line offers a silicone- and oil-free option, two ingredients that, makers say, can weigh hair down.
Tester's take: "Well, it worked! It wasn't greasy, had a nice smell and kept frizz down. I'd recommend using it prior to straightening or blowing out your hair since it seemed to provide a very protective coat."
SHOP NOW: Living Proof Satin Hair Serum, $29
First-Aid4 of 16
The promise: The Matrix Sleek Cream contains apricot oil, which helps soften and condition hair while taking away frizz. Added bonus: The cream coats hair to protect against heat during blowouts.
Tester's take: "Where have you been all my life, Matrix? You've given me shiny Marcia Brady hair instantly. It is so glossy and sleek—and that's without a blow-dry. I would definitely buy this product and I'm a picky customer."
SHOP NOW: Matrix Sleek Leave-In Cream, $14
Straight Talk5 of 16
The promise: For those who don't care for gels or serums, this lotion is the ideal alternative that still offers maximum frizz control.
Tester's take: "The product was awesome! It was lightweight, made my hair super-soft, protected my hair from heat and smelled wonderful!"
SHOP NOW: Mark. Super Smoothing Lotion, $16
Salon Effect6 of 16
The promise: This product contains olive and coconut oils to condition dry hair while taming frizz.
Tester's take: "It did have an olive oil consistency but I was pleasantly surprised how it didn't leave my hair looking oily at all. Instead, my hair looked smooth all day long, as though I had just left the salon."
SHOP NOW: Umberto Beverly Hills Roman Oil, $13
At Ease7 of 16
The promise: Ideal for coarse to very coarse frizzy hair, this serum contains seaweed extract to condition and smooth.
Tester's take: "Applying this was very easy and I liked the way the pump gives you measured amounts. The product was light and lasted all day. It didn't weigh my hair down too much and left it feeling silkier to the touch."
SHOP NOW: John Frieda Frizz-Ease Serum, $8
Like Magic8 of 16
The promise: Formulated with Moroccan argan oil and coconut extract, this product claims to eliminate frizz while also giving hair some added polish.
Tester's take: "This was a super-lightweight oil—almost like a magical dry oil—that seemed to evaporate when I rubbed it in my palms. But it left just enough product to apply to the ends of my hair. I love that it wasn't greasy at all and helped soften and smooth my strands."
SHOP NOW: Nexxus Frizz Defy, $3
Spray Away9 of 16
The promise: Made of olive, avocado and grape oils, this product comes in a spray bottle that makes it easy to apply—without overdoing it.
Tester's take: "A great finishing spray to use after blow-drying. Flyaways were definitely less noticeable and my hair was really soft, too."
SHOP NOW: Ouidad Frizz & Flyaway Fighter, $13
Smooth Operator10 of 16
The promise: Popular with salon pros, this product has a formula that's powerful yet lightweight.
Tester's take: "I was skeptical when the directions said to apply the product only on the bottom half of my hair. But I was pleasantly surprised that the top half was also significantly less frizzy throughout the day. The scent was also nice and not overwhelming."
SHOP NOW: Wella Flowing Form Smoothing Balm, $5
Cream of the Crop11 of 16
The promise: This product comes out as a cream but feels like a lightweight serum as it's being applied, without any of the greasiness.
Tester's take: "Not only did it take away frizz, it left my hair feeling extra smooth and silky. The cream was so lightweight and didn't leave any leftover residue on my fingers after I applied it. I also liked how it can be used on either wet or dry hair."
SHOP NOW: Dove Frizz Free Cream Serum, $10
Wow Factor12 of 16
The promise: Described as a "one-minute miracle cream," Color Wow contains avocado oil, which eliminates scalp dryness and has a natural SPF, in addition to locking in moisture.
Tester's take: "It had a light texture, nice scent and was a quick fix for flyaways. Saw results in under a minute, as promised."
SHOP NOW: Color Wow One-Minute Transformation, $24
Down to Earth13 of 16
The promise: Created by a mother of five, the ingredients in this hair "butter" sound good enough to eat: almond milk, pumpkin seed oil, macadamias and marshmallow root.
Tester's take: "It's not often you find a hair product that's made of all-natural ingredients and also really works. This took away the frizz and left my hair smelling like dessert."
SHOP NOW: Camille Rose Twisting Butter, $16
Brazilian Brilliance14 of 16
The promise: This smoothing serum includes amino acids to help strengthen hair, lock in moisture and keep out humidity—all of the necessary requirements for frizz-free hair.
Tester's take: "It almost worked too well. My hair was not frizzy at all, but a little goes a long way so it can definitely be used sparingly."
SHOP NOW: Brazilian Blowout Acai Serum, $38
In Full Bloom15 of 16
The promise: The oil contains orchid extract (an ingredient that restores moisture and elasticity) to fight frizz and make hair softer.
Tester's take: "It smelled really good, like flowers—orchids, actually (who would've guessed). It was light, easy to use and made my hair softer. The softness seemed to last throughout the day, too."
SHOP NOW: White Sands Orchids Oil, $18
Fruitful Results16 of 16
The promise: This serum contains pomegranate-seed oil to smooth and hydrate strands.
Tester's take: "I absolutely love the pomegranate scent! The oil was extremely light and only a small amount was needed to tame the frizz. As a bonus, the bottle is tiny enough to stash in your purse to apply to flyaways later on if needed."
