New York Fashion Week Beauty Predictions

Gorgeous smoky eyes, always a big fall trend, will take on a shimmery twist this season. I have a feeling that the autumn collections will be very, very dark. Metallic makeup is perfect for this. It can be subtle and neutral or powerful and bold. It will help to balance out the darkness with a flash of light and color, says Tom Pecheux, creative makeup director, Estée Lauder, who will be doing the makeup for the Derek Lam show. To achieve this look, Pecheux will likely choose Estée Lauder's Pure Color Eye Shadow Palettes, $48 each, his go-to hues for the spring 2013 Derek Lam show.

Fun, funky nail polishes will continue to be strong. This season is all about beautiful bright botanical colors! Pastels that have a good amount of brightness will be hot, but not to the extent of neon. They can work for all skin tones, says Jin Soon Choi, owner of Jin Soon Choi spas in NYC, who'll be doing the nails for Tibi, Rag & Bone, Derek Lam, J. Mendel and Theory. Since emerald is the Pantone color of the year, we expect to see lots of greens on the runways in hues ranging from light, like Crabtree & Evelyn's new lacquer in Pistachio, $6, to dark: Jin Soon's own Metaphor, $18.

Better make sure you're fully stocked with styling gel and hairspray. This is going to be an exciting season for hair, incorporating shapes with lots of form and texture. You'll see fun hairstyles including French twists, fierce ponytails and knots, predicts Rodney Cutler, owner of Cutler/Redken Salons, who will be doing the hair for the La Perla, Trina Turk and Betsey Johnson shows.

Skin finishes this season will definitely be dewy. Nothing says beauty more than a clean, bright face and this season will be no exception. Oxygen in foundations is big this year, which only tells me that the glowy, shiny face is still the trend, says Joanna Vargas, celebrity facialist and founder of Joanna Vargas Salon and Skincare Collection. The skin star will be prepping models' skin backstage at the Cynthia Rowley and Zero+Maria Cornejo. Vargas is a big fan of chlorophyll as a glow-inducing ingredient, and she's included it in her Daily Serum, $85.

A handful of models, like Karlie Kloss and Edie Campbell, have the nerve to reinvent their look for Fashion Week. It makes them really stand out from the pack. To me, a mid-length to short haircut looks really chic and can inspire a new look. It's a statement! says TRESemmé lead stylist Jeanie Syfu, who will be doing the hair for the Jenny Packham, Tracy Reese and Rebecca Minkoff fashion shows.
