The Best Wedding Hairstyles1 of 12
By Emily Hebert for ELLE
Wedding season is here! Whether you're celebrating as a bride or guest, here are 11 celebrity looks to get you inspired.
Charlize Theron2 of 12
“Placing a chignon off-center adds softness,” says celebrity hairstylist Mara Roszak. Add a statement accessory to the mix, and you’ve got a winning look: “Her Cartier headband was one of a kind—with such an important piece of jewelry, we wanted to keep the hair understated yet modern,” says Moroccanoil coiffeur Enzo Angileri, who created Theron’s stunning style for the Golden Globes. After spraying Moroccanoil Frizz Control on Theron’s damp hair, he dried it and used a curling iron to enhance her natural waves. With the headband in place, he then pinned her tresses into a textured side-roll.
Paula Patton3 of 12
“Adding a jeweled or metallic accessory gives an instant dose of glamour,” says Roszak. Patton’s side-swept waves—and elegant barrette—demonstrate this effect.
Reese Witherspoon4 of 12
“I wanted to showcase her shoulders, neck, and beautiful earrings,” says hairstylist Renato Campora about the ’60s-inspired pony he crafted for Reese Witherspoon.
Coiffeur Giannandrea, known for teasing Drew Barrymore’s strands into voluminous updos, likes the look. “Adding height to the crown can be tricky, but when done in the right proportions, it’s very glamorous,” he says. “A ponytail with volume on top is always stylish.”
Marion Cotillard5 of 12
Party in the back! Cotillard’s bun reaches epic proportions, but somehow doesn’t appear overdone. Add a sparkling headband, and her pouf is picture-perfect.
Kim Kardashian6 of 12
Adding braids can give classic hairstyles an edgy twist, says mane master Adir Abergel: “It’s all about playing with duality and texture.” Kardashian did just that, pairing two well-placed plaits with cascading waves.
Drew Barrymore7 of 12
In 2010, Giannandrea coached Barrymore’s tresses into a pumped-up French twist. “It was a combination of Monica Vitti and Brigitte Bardot,” he says of the style’s 1960s inspiration. “What made the hair modern were Drew’s face-framing layers in front—I’d given her long bangs.”

Lea Michele8 of 12
The Glee star favored a variation of Kardashian’s dual-texture look at a red-carpet event; two braids met at the nape of her neck in a plaited chignon.
Jessica Alba9 of 12
Guido, Redken’s creative consultant, wove French braids around models’ heads—and it’s a hairstyle that Jessica Alba loves (she’s chosen the plaited ’do for red-carpet events several times over the past two years). “You don’t have to be good at braiding in order to create this look,” says Guido. “A disheveled appearance is more charming. Don’t worry if you have to fudge a little or pieces fall out."
Jennifer Lopez10 of 12
Lopez always wears flawless hairstyles—and a high-bun is one of her favorites. It’s no wonder: The updo is the ideal companion for a long, flowing gown.
Kirsten Dunst11 of 12
“I always love a soft, textured updo with a shiny accessory,” says Guido. “It provides contrast and makes a style statement.” Kirsten Dunst’s delicate gold headband accentuates her loosely pinned curls.
Liu Wen12 of 12
Wen’s neck-grazing hair knot is simple yet sophisticated, parted cleanly on the side and wrapped over one ear.
