A survey from the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery showed that more than 50% of respondents felt that plastic surgery has grown more popular among members of their own racial/ethnic group over the past five years, specifically among Asian-American, African-American and Hispanic patients. Even more interesting? Thirty percent of respondents said they would seek out a surgeon of the same race/ethnicity as themselves.

Kate Somerville, for one, just launched resurfacing peel pads that slip over your three middle fingers like a puppet — meant to mimic a professional-strength treatment peel.

Legendary makeup artist François Nars launched his luxe makeup line, NARS, 17 years ago, but Thursday marked the debut of the brand’s first-ever flagship store, in New York’s West Village. The black-and-white shop opened with a cache of store-exclusive items, including a cinnamon-hued lipstick, dubbed 413 Bleecker for the address of the sleek boutique.

Plastic surgeon Dr. Stanley Jacobs has been on a mission to discover a way to scientifically measure the results of doctors and surgeons, and now he’s created The Cutometer MPA 580 which measures the “visco-elasticity” of the skin within a millionth of an inch. One can then compare results of procedures (like liposcution, laser resurfacing and face lifts) and products to understand better the biomechanics of how the skin works, according to Dr. Jacobs.

Lancôme, Kate Somerville and Emerge are just a few of the skincare companies to recently incorporate stem cell technology (not actual human stem cells, mind you) into facial creams and serums. The claim is that the ingredients, which often contain plant stem cells, boost the turnover potential of the skin’s cells.
