In the movie, two families from two very different backgrounds are brought together by a destination wedding. With the ceremony and reception as his focal point, Enman was inspired by event planners Colin Cowie, David Tutera and Preston Bailey for the ethereal seaside event.

Home Is Where the Heart Is

Although the story is set in Martha's Vineyard, the Victorian-style house where the wedding takes place is actually located in Nova Scotia. “We had an amazing location on the water [with] natural beaches,” Enman says.

Something Borrowed

Much to Enman’s surprise, the home’s living room was camera-ready when he arrived. “The home was 90 percent there and very tastefully done," he says. More artwork, accents and lush greenery added depth. To get the look, he suggests bringing in printed pillows and lush plants "to make a neutral palette a bit more lively.”

The Bridal Party

Anchored by Angela Bassett, Paula Patton, Laz Alonso and Loretta Devine, the film receives its comedic relief from Mike Epps, Tasha Smith, Meagan Good and “Dancing With the Stars” contestant Romeo Miller. “We got the whole package,” says Enman of the all-star cast and location.

For Better or Worse

As with almost every wedding, there’s a bit of drama leading up to the big day. And with a cast this funny and this big, the laughs (and the commotion) are not in short supply. “Get ready to laugh and cry and laugh again,” says Enman.

Kitchen Confidential

In one hilarious scene, Mike Epps’s and Meagan Good’s characters are caught making out in the kitchen while unattended pots begin to burn and boil. The sleek and traditional kitchen space is marked by the silver tile backsplash juxtaposed with earthy the wood cabinets.

A Family Affair

Playing mother and daughter, Bassett and Patton form a dynamic duo. Both brought their young children to set, Patton having given birth to son Julian just months before shooting began. “The energy of all the cast members was great, it was really like a family reunion or wedding," says Enman.

Coming Up Roses

“We wanted to make sure there were flowers everywhere,” says Enman of the cream vendela rose selection for the wedding. Producer Tracey Edmonds also had a very strong idea of what an African-American wedding in the Vineyard meant, so all-cream was fitting to the clean and classic theme.

Backyard Boogie

The multi-acre estate provided the perfect setting for the wedding reception. Tenting the dance floor and dozens of tables was no easy feat, but it was essential to pulling off the “ultimate bourgie, upper-class wedding that Angela Bassett and Paula Patton’s characters would have thrown.”

Happily Ever After

Building a graceful archway for the ceremony ensured that the radiance of the couple and the surroundings would take center stage. “We didn’t want to overshadow the natural beauty with a lot of high design or bright colors.”
