They don't call it spring cleaning for nothing. Before doing anything else, designer Betsy Burnham suggests tackling one area of your home—heck, even one drawer—at a time to clear out winter clutter. Growing up, my mom had a set of white slipcovers with contrast piping for each upholstered piece in our living room, Burnham says. So in the fall and winter, we had heavy upholstery fabrics and velvets, and in the summer, all the furniture was white. Let your walls be your spring canvas, advises lifestyle guru and designer Kelly Wearstler. I love adding an unexpected color or texture using beautiful wall coverings, she says. You can create a fresh perspective to just about any space in your home by bringing in a bold stripe, a splash of color or an interesting texture. Rejuvenate your kitchen with new placemats and napkins, Burnham says.
