Hump Day Happy Hour
Pour One For Our Forefathers On 4th Of JulyBy Julie Fishman
Food, friends, fireworks — what's not to love about the 4th of July holiday? And it only gets better when you have a creamy, tricolored cocktail in hand. New York City bartender Dara Mahler concocted a drink exclusively for Glo called “Libertini and Justice for All” that is sure to inspire a heartfelt toast to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Remember those red, white and blue ice pops you ate every 4th as a kid? The “Libertini” is the adult version that we wish the Mr. Softee truck would carry. While all (wo)men are created equal, all drinks are not: Perfecting this banded cocktail will impress revelers with both its look and taste. Don't forget to pour one for the forefathers … and in gratitude that we never had to experience prohibition!
"Libertini and Justice for All"
1 oz Stoli Orange
1 oz Grand Marnier
1/2 oz White Creme de Cocoa
1/2 oz Cream
1 tsp Blue Curacao
1/2 tsp Grenadine
In a shaker with ice, combine Stoli Orange, Grand Marnier, White Creme de Cocoa and cream. Shake and strain into a chilled martini glass. Pour the grenadine directly down the middle of the drink (this is known as a "hard" pour); it should fall to the bottom of the glass. Slowly pour the Blue Curacao down the side of the martini glass so that it layers itself above the grenadine, making the finished product banded red, blue and white.
Dara Mahler is a bartender at NYC's Reservoir, a popular haunt of NYU students located just south of Union Square in Manhattan.
This cocktail is the grown-up version of our favorite summer popsicle. Yum!Istockphoto
