A Drink to Celebrate the First Day of FallBy Julie Fishman
Thank goodness for fall — without it, the switch from summer cottons to winter wools would be unbearable. Take the time to appreciate the crisp air (before it becomes biting wind) with a glass of Food Network host Alex Guarnaschelli's “Grape Escape,” a drink that's a big step up from your kid's Juicy Juice.
Apple recipes are a dime a dozen in the fall, so Alex decided to make her just-for-Glo cocktail unique by using grapes, which are also in-season. The originality certainly paid off because this drink had us thanking the harvest gods for creating such a glorious fruit.
Since it can be made in large batches, “Grape Escape” is a phenomenal choice if you're hosting a girl's night in. It's sure to impress both your friends and your taste buds.
1 bunch Red Seedless Grapes, stemmed and washed (about 1 lb)
1 bunch White Seedless Grapes, stemmed and washed (about 1 lb)
1 qt Chilled Grape Juice
1 tbsp Honey
16 oz. Vodka, preferable Ciroc
2 cups Chilled Seltzer, Club Soda or Naturally Sparkling Water
Put half of the red grapes and half of the white grapes in the freezer for garnish. Put the remaining grapes in a large bowl and "smash" them with a whisk or your fingers. Transfer the smashed grapes to a large pitcher, and pour in the grape juice and honey. Stir in the vodka. Fill glasses halfway with the grape juice mixture, and top with a splash of seltzer. Drop a few frozen grapes into each glass for a festive garnish that doubles as an ice cube!
