Hump Day Happy Hour
This Chinese New Year Drink is a Firecracker!
By Julie FishmanTonight marks the eve of the Chinese New Year, a 15-day festival filled with family, fireworks and lots of food. This week's fruity cocktail, “Pear for the Hare,” is the perfect complement to the savory buns and dumplings served at traditional Chinese New Year meals.
Made for Glo by the bartenders at WP24 by Wolfgang Puck, “Pear for the Hare” combines the bite of the outgoing Year of the Tiger with the sweetness of the incoming Year of the Rabbit. Toss back a glass or two and toast to “gung hay fat choy” — Cantonese for great prosperity and happiness.
If you can't make any of tonight's revelry, be sure to find the nearest Chinatown in time for the Lantern Festival on February 17th. A vibrant finale to the New Year's celebration, the evening includes countless paper lanterns and a striking dragon dance. Pair the partying with the “Pear for the Hare” and hop happily into the Year of the Rabbit.
