Toast to Women's Equality Day
By Julie FishmanThis Friday marks the 91st anniversary of the 19th Amendment, which gave us gals the right to vote. Officially named Women's Equality Day in 1970, the holiday celebrates all the R-E-S-P-E-C-T we've gained.
In honor of the occasion, L.A.'s Upper West restaurant created a refreshing cucumber cocktail while The Spa at The Jefferson Hotel in Washington D.C. recommends a end-of-summer facial mask with the skin-soothing ingredient.
After you've pampered your skin, relax and unwind with this week's "Damsel in De-Stress" drink. We are women, hear us roar—or, in this case, sigh.
"Damsel in De-Stress"
Ingredients:
1.25 oz. Skyy Vodka or Plymouth Gin
5 cucumber slices
6 mint leaves
0.25 oz. sweet & sour mix
0.25 oz. Sprite
Directions:
Place 4 cucumber slices along with rest of ingredients into a Boston shaker. Shake and strain into a martini glass. Garnish with last cucumber slice.

"Summer Cucumber Mask"
Ingredients:
1 small avocado, mashed (about 2/3 cup)
0.50 small cucumber, finely grated (about 1/3 cup)
1 tsp. fresh lemon juice
Directions:
Combine all ingredients in a bowl, using a fork to blend well. Cover and chill the mask in your refrigerator for 30 minutes before application. Wash and clean your face and neck. Pat dry with a clean towel. Apply a thick layer of the mask to your face and neck, avoiding the eyes and mouth. After 10 minutes, wipe skin clean with a damp, warm cloth. Wash your skin with cool water and pat dry.
