My Blue Heaven1 of 10
By Amy Elisa Keith
For House of Turquoise blogger Erin Olson, that beautiful blue-green combo has always "given me a rush that no other color did." So Olson set out to find eye-catching interiors that featured her favorite shade. Here, the arbiter of all things turquoise shares her best tips for enlivening your home with the feel-happy hue.
Best of Both Worlds2 of 10
While most colors are either cool or warm, turquoise, says Olson, can be both. "It's energizing as well as soothing," she says. "I think this energy comes from the fact that it's the color of the ocean." In decorating your own home, remember the versatility of the color in its various shades, from robin's egg blue to pale green.
Neutral Territory3 of 10
"Turquoise is popular now because it coordinates so well with every other color," says Olson. She notes that the hue isn't overly feminine or masculine, making it a perfect choice for couples. "A splash of turquoise works in every room," she adds. "It's a great way to update your existing space."
Bathed in Blue4 of 10
Looking for just a dash of color? "Turquoise throw pillows, lamps or an area rug are great ways to add a punch of color," advises Olson. "If you are brave enough to paint, then there's nothing I love more than an aqua blue bathroom. It's like a trip to the spa every day."
Made in the Shades5 of 10
"As much as I love turquoise, totally filling your room with it can be bad," says Olson. "You don't want the same shade of turquoise on your walls, windows, furniture and floors." Prevent a turquoise overdose by layering your room with different shades of the color.
Roll It On6 of 10
Olson's go-to shades of turquoise paint are inspired by the Caribbean Sea. "Aim for a pretty blue-green with a hint of gray," she says, recommending Palladian Blue and Wythe Blue by Benjamin Moore paints. Both colors would work well in the bedroom or kitchen.
Perfect Pair7 of 10
While painting a room turquoise and white can create a soothing effect, pairing the shade with a more punchy color can add some oomph to your space. "If you don't want your room to feel too beachy, then I would pair it with hot pink," she says of the feminine duo. For a sophisticated turn, try turquoise and gray. "My favorite, turquoise and tangerine, a trend right now, is very energetic and fresh."

A quick way to transform the look of your kitchen is to display turquoise dinnerware or beach glass throughout the space. "There may not be a lot of color, but it's noticeable and effective," says Olson, who loves this kitchen's open shelving and worn mint vases. Added bonus? "It's easy to change out, should you get tired of it."
Off the Wall9 of 10
When it comes to turquoise, a fresh coat of paint is only the beginning. "There are so many great turquoise fabrics available now," says Olson, whose favorites include Trina Turk for Schumacher and Eileen Kathryn Boyd for Duralee. "As for wallpaper, Eijffinger's collection is full of color and whimsy, while Phillip Jeffries' grasscloth is my next project," she says.
Outside Chance10 of 10
If you're feeling ambitious, then create the feel of a beachside retreat with an unexpected update to your home's exterior. "A sand-and-sea color palette with nature-inspired textures will give you that coastal feel without the obvious mermaids or beach art," says Olson, who was dazzled by this home's pale-turquoise shutters.
