    While most colors are either cool or warm, turquoise, says Olson, can be both. It's energizing as well as soothing, she says. I think this energy comes from the fact that it's the color of the ocean. In decorating your own home, remember the versatility of the color in its various shades, from robin's egg blue to pale green.

    As much as I love turquoise, totally filling your room with it can be bad, says Olson. You don't want the same shade of turquoise on your walls, windows, furniture and floors. Prevent a turquoise overdose by layering your room with different shades of the color.

    Olson's go-to shades of turquoise paint are inspired by the Caribbean Sea. Aim for a pretty blue-green with a hint of gray, she says, recommending Palladian Blue and Wythe Blue by Benjamin Moore paints. Both colors would work well in the bedroom or kitchen.

My favorite, turquoise and tangerine, a trend right now, is very energetic and fresh.

There are so many great turquoise fabrics available now, says Olson, whose favorites include Trina Turk for Schumacher and Eileen Kathryn Boyd for Duralee. As for wallpaper, Eijffinger's collection is full of color and whimsy, while Phillip Jeffries' grasscloth is my next project, she says.
