The Dilemma: My boyfriend and I have a great relationship. However, he has some female "friends" who are very flirty, and one girl takes it too far with her constant text messages. She seems be pursuing him and doesn't care that he has a girlfriend. He and I have talked about her, and things are fine between us, in that I trust him and don't mind if he talks to other girls, but I don't like her. How can I get rid of my jealousy? —Anonymous
Caroline's Ruling: Flirtatious texts may seem harmless every now and again, but an ongoing obsession with another person is crossing the line. You mentioned that you talked to your boyfriend already and things are fine between the two of you. The fact that you're writing me suggests otherwise. Trust your intuition—don't ignore it.
This is about respect: It's obvious that this girl has none for your relationship, and that needs to be addressed. Ask your boyfriend how he would feel if the tables were turned and explain to him that it's not a lack of trust in him. Make a commitment to be sensitive to each other's feelings, and work together to come up with boundaries that are acceptable to both of you.
You said that you and your boyfriend have a great relationship—that's wonderful. As long as there have been no signs that set your "uh-oh radar" off, then you should enjoy each other and appreciate your relationship. By doing so, you'll send this girl a message louder than any text she could possibly write.
