How Can I Get My Husband to Be More Romantic?
From marriage dilemmas to family issues, Caroline's got the answers!Photo by Michael T. Greco
Caroline Manzo puts the real in The Real Housewives of New Jersey, and her fans relate to the reality star's no-nonsense attitude, focus on family and, above all, abundant common sense. In this column, Caroline helps solve your most pressing dilemmas.
The Dilemma: I'm always the one doing sweet things for my husband (e.g. planning our anniversaries or reminding him that they are coming up, leaving little love notes for him, surprising him with his favorite home-cooked meal), and he rarely returns these gestures. How can I get my husband to be more romantic—without nagging him?
Caroline's Ruling: Oh, my gosh—I feel like I've heard this question a million times before! I have a question for you: Is this a new thing or was your husband always this way? If he was always this way, then you have to be a little realistic in your expectations.
As women, we sometimes put pressure on our men to read our minds and know what we want. Unfortunately, human beings aren't equipped with an electrical panel that can be wired to our individual specifications. If your husband's idea of a romantic evening is watching football on the couch while you rub his feet, then you may have your work cut out for you. However, this doesn't mean he doesn't love you; it just means that he's wired differently.
