Caroline Rules: Welcome Home?
"Real Housewife" Caroline Manzo offers advice on what to do when your grown-up kid moves back in
Needless to say, lying on the couch doesn't sound proactive. There are plenty of ways that your son could demonstrate his passion and dedication to pursuing his dream. It doesn't matter if you are working in the mailroom or as a janitor at a recording studio, you have to find a way to get your foot in the door.
If that's not an option, he should be doing something to subsidize his income until he gets closer to his goal. Twenty-eight is a far cry from 16, and he has to show some sort of initiative. There are plenty of people who have graduated from the best colleges and aren't working in the field that they studied for. But they're out there hitting the pavement and doing what they have to do to get by in this world.
I would suggest that you and your husband sit your son down and tell him that he is welcome to stay as long as he's making an effort to get up and do something every day. Rome wasn't built in a day and he needs to understand that he may have to work in a field that has nothing to do with his craft like so many others out there, but that's life.
