On-Screen Dads We Wish We Had

What happens when a wheelin-and-dealin lawyer is unable to lie for 24 hours? Well, in Liar Liar, he becomes a better lawyer, dad and man, all thanks to his son Max's birthday wish. We loved watching what happens when a dose of forced honestly hits this perpetually fib-telling father. (We also have a special place in our hearts for The Claw — Fletcher's signature joke.)

We love this sentimental guy from Father of the Bride for giving us an inside look into a dad's mind, as he realizes his daughter has grown up. Not gonna lie, this movie makes us a little teary over the fact that we're a bit too old to be Daddy's girl anymore, but we're suckers for reminiscing all the same.

In Dr. Doolittle, a real doc discovers voices in his head ... and they belong to any animal he encounters. While his newfound talent creates some problems, mainly of the this-guy-must-be-crazy variety, we think a dad who can talk to the family pet is way, way cool.

Every time we watch The Lion King, we admittedly get a little misty when this good-guy dad is killed. But we like the idea he shares with his son, Simba: that those who pass on become stars in the night sky, forever protecting us. Plus, it's hard to argue with Mufasa's simple, yet poignant, advice: Remember who you are.

This father would do anything for his family — even jump off a bridge, if he thought it would help them. At the end of It's a Wonderful Life, after everyone comes together to support George and his family, his brother Harry appropriately labels him the richest man in town, for having the respect of every person who knows him.

Dads will do anything for their children, and this one proves his devotion to his kids by willingly wearing pantyhose. (A feat in itself, we say!) When he found out he could only see his family once a week, after separating from his wife, Daniel transformed himself into Mrs. Euphegenia Doubtfire, posing as the family housekeeper in order to stay in his kids' lives.

This Holy Grail-obsessed pop instilled a love of antiquity (and adventure) into son Indiana. In Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, the two team up to find the Grail, teaching each other a thing or two about battling bad guys in the process. (And we can't help but giggle every time Henry calls Indiana Junior, despite the latter's protesting that he stop doing so.)

While he's a bit overprotective, to say the least, we admire this dad from Meet the Parents for his commitment to ensuring that his daughter marry a good guy. After all, if an ex-CIA agent can't find any dirt on the guy you're with, you're probably in the clear. (Though, if we were Jack's daughter Pam, we would be terrified to bring a date home to dad.)
