Alison Sweeney of "The Biggest Loser" Gives Her New Year's Resolution Tips
- By Natasha Burton
The Biggest Loser returns for its 13th season tonight, bringing viewers another round of those notorious "last-chance" workouts and seriously inspirational transformations. The show's host, actress Alison Sweeney, is no stranger to what it takes to make a major life change, after both successfully embarking on her own weight loss journey and transitioning her lifestyle as a working mom of two.
We asked Sweeney, who penned her first book, The Mommy Diet, last year, to share her tips for making—and sticking to—your New Year's resolution long after the confetti has settled.
Choose wisely.
When it comes to picking your New Year's resolution, "You don't want to choose something you're automatically going to fail at, like 'I'll never eat sugar again,'" says Sweeney. Instead, she encourages people to find a goal that's achievable, but also just a little beyond reach.
Thinking about the resolution as an abstract concept instead of an absolute might also help. "Make it more of a New Year's intention," says Sweeney. "Like 'My intention is to balance my time better' or 'My intention is to not be so hard on myself if I don't make time for everything.'" By thinking of a resolution as an ongoing goal to strive for, you won't "feel like a failure if you stumble a little bit," she says.
